As I mentioned in the last post, Payton is crawling and seems to pick up speed every day. I think I need to get him some kneepads because the poor little guy has bruises on his knees from crawling on the hardwoods. He is also climbing on things like a monkey, and periodically will try to balance enough to let good. He always plops back down on his bottom but it's cute to see him test the waters. He naturally gravitates towards the two places we don't want him to go: the wood stove and Winston's dog and water bowl. We will probably have to buy a bunch of baby gates very soon which is fine since I've already given up on trying to keep the house from looking like a day care! :)
Payton is, however, a GREAT eater and it's fun to be able to take him to lunch and order off the kids meal. I think he's had everything from grilled cheese to an enchilada, and he doesn't seem to refuse much. His first love is still bananas but we've expanded to mangos, pears, and blueberries (which produces some very interesting diapers!).
Payton is also babbling a LOT and he seems to utter a new noise each day. Ryan keeps trying to get him to say Da Da and me, of course, Ma Ma, but I wouldn't be surprised if he said Winnie, since he is so enamored by him. They are definitely going to be best buddies when Pea gets a bit older.
We are struggling with the sleeping again. It seems to change weekly, but I just talked to the mom's in Kindermusik today and they all gave me pretty much the same advice: let him cry it out. At 9.5 months, he doesn't need to eat in the middle of the night and as long as I'm sure he's not in pain, it's ok to let him cry it out. So that's what I'm going to do tonight. So I'll be sure to report back how it goes. The last week I've been up approx. 3 times each night which makes it very hard to make it through the day. I'm sure Payton doesn't feel great either!
Another challenge is that Payton doesn't like books. Oh, he likes to eat them but he refuses to sit still so I can read to him. I think he's just going to be an active little guy but I really hope I can find a way to get him to love reading as much as I do. I'll keep trying for sure.
Well, that's the latest on Mr. Pea. He is so fun and makes me laugh out loud at least once a day. Like I said in the beginning, I marvel at how fast he's growing. Check out the comparison (thanks Auntie Erin for the great pics!)
